Quince. A reliable 'cropper' that produces large, yellow, attractive fruit that are ripe in autumn. Excellent for adding fragrance and picquance to preserves and sauces. Hardy and easy to grow in a sunny spot. Self fertile. Usually crops approximately 4 years after planting. Deciduous.

Suitable for most NZ climates.

aka Raspberry

Small firm rosettes of dark black berries. Easily removed when ripe. Upright canes, rose type leaves, simple small white flowers followed by sweet delicate dark fruit. A strong productive plant, spreads quickly, easy to grow. No spines. Self fertile. Harvest Dec - Feb Deciduous.

Mostly Thornless.

Produces light red juicy berries with excellent raspberry flavour. A dwarf raspberry that is self fertile, round compact habit that is thornless and ideal for containers on the deck or patio. When ripe eat straight from the bush, throw in the kids lunchboxes or make a delicious dessert.

A high yielding, mid-season Raspberry is almost thornless, and has medium sized berries. The fruit comes away from the bush readily, making harvesting easy. This variety has a high resistance to fruit rot. Main crop in summer, smaller (2nd) autumn yeild. Deciduous.

Most Raspberries fruit on 2nd year 'canes' i.e. older wood. 'Nootka' also fruits on new growth. You will need to provide a support framework for the 'canes' to grow against. Raspberries love well rotted organic matter and will fruit best when given a well balanced fertilizer in early spring.

aka Bramble

An excellent variety of summer Raspberry with almost thornless 'canes' and bright glossy berries with an excellent flavour. Bred with good resistance to fruit rot. The fruit ripens in early summer. Plant in a sunny sheltered position. Deciduous.

Waiau is one of the early ripening Raspberries so if you're looking for a start of the season treat this could be for you. Raspberries are one of summer's great delights and are an ideal home garden plant for most temperate areas of New Zealand. They are easy to grow and very rewarding.

'Willamette' is a reliable, older variety with large deep red fruit with a nice sharp tang. Ripe from Autumn and suitable to prune for second fruiting. Plant in a sheltered sunny position in soil that does not completely dry out in summer. Deciduous.

aka Elderberry

Elderberry is a valued plant for its medicinal and nutritional qualities. Large deep green leaflets and fragrant white flower heads in summer followed by red-black berries that can be used for juicing or you may like to make some Elderberry Wine. Deciduous.

Elderberries are also valued because of the high iron content of the fruit.

aka Tree Tomato

Sumptuous large golden fruit that are lovely and sweet (not as tart as the red ones) Small Harvest any time from April to September, dependant on regular picking and when you prune. Prefers well drained, sheltered site in full sun. Semi-evergreen.

Your Tamarillo will appreciate a nice layer of mulch around the drip line - take care not to place against the trunk. Tamarillo's are not particularly long-lived so probably best to replace your tree every 3-4 years.

Citrus With its easy peel skin it is almost seedless and very juicy. A bit tangy if picked too early. Lovely orange skin that stands out in the home garden or orchard. Ripens from August through to October and holds well on the tree. Evergreen.
